A Couple Of Quick Book Reports

Just a few quick comments about two books that I just recently finished reading. The first is When The Game Was Ours by Larry Bird and Magic Johnson. It’s a good account of the two basketball star’s professional relationship that was forever established during the 1979 NCAA mens’s basketball championship.

The book provides good incite to the competition between them that forged respect for each other’s abilities. The only other such pairing that I can think of is Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova. I was also surprised by then backstory around Magic’s retirements due to his contracting the virus that causes aids. Any sports fan during the ’80s will enjoy this book.

Yesterday I finished Magic Lost, Trouble Found by Lisa Shearin, and I am now reading the second book in this fantasy series. The story’s female hero gets attached to an amulet that enhances her otherwise limited magical powers. Along the way she learns that her father is still alive, but trapped in the rock for which the amulet is a beacon. She needs to get detached from the rock before she either goes crazy or is killed by the goblins who want the power the rock bestows on those who possess it. Snarky dialog and humor make this book a quick read.
